Paint booth is a necessary equipment in industrial painting, we must choose the most suitable airflow method according to its purpose when manufacturing it. Cost, quality requirements, energy consumption, environmental protection, floor space, etc., are all factors we need to consider.
If your spray booth uses the Crossdraft method, the airflow goes from one end of the booth to the other.
This method is low cost and easy to install, but the disadvantage is that the mist will move along the side of the object being sprayed, thus, the mist cannot be removed from around the operator’s face, and the working environment is not good.
There is no doubt that this airflow design is economical, but has poor control of paint mist to the point of poor working conditions. Therefore, it is only suitable for temporary or small painting jobs with low budget and low requirements.
If your budget is not very limited, we do not recommend you to use this type of airflow for your paint booth.
If the Downdraft method is used, the air will enter the spray booth vertically through the top filtration system and then be discharged through the floor. The airflow direction of this design is vertical, which creates a unidirectional flow, effectively controlling the diffusion of the spray and ensuring that the spray sinks quickly and stays less in the operator’s breathing zone. It provides a cleaner painting process and an ideal working environment, but it is more costly and takes up more space than Crossdraft.
In order to guarantee the uniformity of the airflow, we will add a static pressure device to control the fluctuation of the airflow speed within 15% to maintain the unidirectional flow.
In order to deal with the paint spray mist treatment: we will set up a water curtain system (which can capture more than 99% of the paint mist) or a filtration system (multi-stage fiberglass) at the bottom of the spray booth.
Appliance: High quality finish (e.g. vehicle, aviation parts), that require a high level of cleanliness.
Advantages: Highly efficient paint mist control and excellent operating environment.
The air inlet of the Semi-Downdraft/Side-Downdraft is the same as the Downdraft, but the air outlet is through the bottom of the side wall of the spray booth. This airflow method also achieves mist away from the painted object itself and removes the mist from around the operator, and is more moderately priced.
However, you need to know that the lateral airflow may be blocked by the equipment, affecting the uniformity of the spray paint.
It balances cost-effectiveness which suitable for mid-range furniture and machinery spraying.
For the painting of oversized parts, we even need to use full air coverage (to control the spreading of paint mist). Controlling airflow along the contours of the part to avoid wasted airflow.
